James Belyea
Location Sound Recordist
In 2014, as part of a four-month internship through a Sheridan College Media Arts program, James shadowed several IATSE 873 Production Sound teams. A decade later, James continues to pursue his passion of sound recording.
Six Foot Sound is a Toronto-based professional location sound recording service founded in 2014 by James Belyea. From a young age, James was fascinated and moved by sound. He would later train at Sheridan College in the Media Arts Film/ TV program (2011-2014), where he specialized in sound recording on set.

After graduation, James moved to Toronto where he actively pursued work through his affiliations as a member of Nabet 700 M-UNIFOR and permit under IATSE Local 873. In April 2023, James was recognized for his Boom Operator work on the feature film "Brother” (Elevation Pictures) which won a record breaking 12 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Picture and Best Sound Mixing, alongside mixer Richard Penn.

James has racked up more than 200 sound credits for productions ranging from corporate, commercial, documentary, ENG, TV and film. Most notably he has lent his ears to networks including: CBC, CTV, TSN, ABC, Rogers, Sportnet, and Corus. Meanwhile some other notable brands include: Visa, Google, Scotiabank, TD Bank, MLSE, General Mills and Air Canada.
James’s favourite part of his job continues to be meeting new people and helping to tell amazing stories while getting to explore the world around him, be it locally or globally. James takes pride in his commitment to excellence and his dedication to the craft. When not working, James enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and the great outdoors. Contact James today.
